Being a Christian Chinese

Being a Chinese Christian

How do you explain to someone the difference between a cultural lifestyle and a Christian lifestyle?

When you have enormous hurdles to jump through in going from a cultural lifestyle to that of a Christian life. I can sum it up in a few verses though by quoting you Matthew 10:38-39.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Gal. 3:26-29 KJV For ye are all the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. 27) For as many of you that have been baptized into Christ (this means born again) have put on Christ. 28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: for ye are all one in Jesus Christ. 29) And if ye be Christ's then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Simply put, there are no ethnicities in the eyes of God, He divided up the people at Babel for the sake of their ego's, but there was never supposed to be different cultures or ethnicities because God created man after HIS image and woman after the image of man. It was only man's free will that brought on the consequences of sin.

I shall attempt this dangerous calling with the utmost care.

But keep this in mind while reading and thinking about the following, ask yourself this question, was Jesus our perfect example? Everything he did, he did for our example. So if Jesus confronted Peter about his denials before he did it, if Jesus told Simon in Luke 22:31 that satan had the desire to get hold of him and sift him like wheat, and then when Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

We were all born into the families we have. We were all born into the culture we're a part of. However, because of tradition, every culture has it's cultural misdealings and it's inherited sinfulness.

First and foremost, we are not to live for ourselves. This is the first stumbling block that every Christian from every culture and life style has to overcome. We are not our own. We were bought with a price and now we need to live accordingly.

Anything that distracts our attention away from our calling, anything that is not of Christ, anything that does not edify Christ's kingdom is of the world and is not of Christ.

So now it doesn't matter what ethnicity you are or what culture you are a part of, if you are asked to join in worshiping your relatives, if you are required to believe that cows are sacred and could be an ancestor, or you are required to go to the temple and burn incense to your ancestors, you should not do it if you are a Christian believer, Born Again in Christ our Lord. You should not participate in any kind of rituals. Do not participate in any religious functions, no matter how insignificant they may seem. This also means not following any horoscope predictions or birth sign character charts or insinuations.

Here's a reminder what Jesus says in Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me.....

It is clear when we are in Christ, we are yoked together.
Remember too, that when we are worshiping Christ in a group of two or more in Jesus name, He is there with us, so if you are a believer, and gathered together with unbelievers, you, being the body of Christ, automatically bring Christ into the gathering. Also the bible says, in the mouths of two or more witnesses let every word be established. So whoring after idols can come with two or more people gathered together also.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - 18 says, be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers
: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15) And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16) And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

So you see, we have to always be a Christian first, and any cultural traditions, actions, or even thoughts, that are not in-line with the Word of God, have to be avoided and cleansed from our lives.

Here's another warning, if your hanging around a group of Christians and all of a sudden the group decides to do something that is ungodly or sinful, like go to an inappropriate movie, don't do it. If your doing anything and your spirit doesn't feel peace about it, then God is trying to direct you away from that thing.

To go on further, there's so much cultural etiquette that we have to fulfill in certain cultures. Whether it's not disciplining your children under the guise of letting them have a happy childhood, or not dealing with the people in your life who do wrong and make your life miserable because you're afraid they will lose face. Did Jesus do that in the above examples?
No, what does it say in James 5?

James 5:16 KJV Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

One last thought, if you're not brave enough to confront an offender, are you brave enough to say to them, "You know (so in so) I'm going to have to forgive you for that and pray for you because you really offend me or make me mad!

My hope for you is that you have had a prayer of salvation,
and if you haven't and you want to ask Christ into your heart and life,
then I offer these words for you to repeat,
but only if your heart is sincere,
because God knows it if you're not.
Dear God, I now know I have needed you and have
rejected your calling, so today, right now,
I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and my life,
and forgive me from all past sin and Lord cleanse me
from my unrighteousness. I believe that Jesus was
crucified for my sin, died, and was buried and rose from the
dead according to the scriptures. I want you forever more
to be my guide and I want to follow you as a believer.
I ask for your strength to change my heart and
my earthly ways so that I can become a better
child in your kingdom. Show me how to depend
on you in all things. And show me how to do
your will in my life. I thank you and pray this
prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
