Fighting Fire With Fire

The battle is ours, but we shouldn't go after it, it will come to us around every corner, just expect it!

God's word is a two edged sword able to cut to the marrow of the bones, it has power, it conquers.

The sword is the word of Truth, the fire we have at our disposal is the name of Jesus Christ.

Do we have a human spirit?

Were we born with the freedom to exercise our own will?

Do we know it all?

Have we experienced it all?

How strong is your self-discipline?

Do we have, or have we had bad habits and displayed ungodly behavior?

Ok, now that I have made you think, here's what I want to share.

I walked home today from church and while listening to other spiritual preaching I felt God was inspiring me to blog this.

This subject has to do with living each day in the strength of Christ.

This is about developing and exercising a God consciousness every moment in our daily lives.

You see, Jesus Christ was truth in the flesh, he was the living word of God, read it for yourself. John 1:14,15.

We have to ask ourselves first, do I want to live a Godly life?

Do I want to be sincerely obedient to the Holy Spirit in my life?

Do I want to be able to recognize the prompting of the Holy Spirit?

Do I want to be able to live out my life like Jesus set the example on how to do?

Do I want to be able to react in every situation the way Jesus Christ would react?

If you answered yes to the last five questions, then read on and I pray that this information is timely and appropriate for you! I know that God has allowed me to learn it as I have grown in my own spiritual walk.

The first secret to this process is, know that you have power in the name of Christ Jesus

Everything that was successfully imposed against the devil, was in Christ's name, or by Christ himself.

I don't need to remind you of all the healing and miracles that were done in the name of Jesus Christ, or by him directly.

So, the FIRST STEP in our own life is we have to realize we have power over our own thoughts. 2 Corinthians 10:3,4,5.

2nd Corinthians 10:3,4,5 - 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Whenever we are subjected to our own human and ungodly thoughts, it's because of the environment we were subjected to, or the influences we grew up in and around. We have the ability to rid ourselves of ungodly thoughts by saying within ourselves, "Satan, I bind you in the name and by the blood of Jesus Christ." I cast down the ungodly thoughts that keep popping up in my head! You have to believe in the power of Jesus name. You can say this out loud, under your breath, or just think it. But, if I'm not in the company of people or an environment where I won't sound crazy, lol, I say it out loud, because I want the devil to hear it!

Remember when Jesus came into the presence of any evil spirits in God's word, Jesus didn't have to say, hey, what are you doing, talk to me!

No, the spirits would acknowledged HIM before He said a word, they would say, "thou Son of God, have you come here to torment us before our time?"

You see, they not only knew that Jesus and our Father are the ultimate authority, and they win in the end, but they knew that they have no power over HIM.

So that's why you can have confidence in your control and ability to cast out evil imaginations before they gain a foothold in your mind and affect your actions.

We have to deal with our temptations and unhealthy thoughts the moment they appear in our minds. It says in
James 4:7 "resist the devil and he shall flee from you, and in 1 Peter 5:6 it reminds us that if we humble ourselves before God, he will exalt us, 5:7 says to cast all your care upon Him; for He cares for you, 5:8 says, be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

So in 5:9 it means we have to "in faith," know that when we use the name of Christ against the devil in our thought life, we do have control, and you will be surprised how well it works. It cleans our minds of immediate bad thoughts.

Now until you learn  how to rely on this method, sometimes we have to introduce good thoughts to supersede our bad thoughts. This is how you do it. You just think of something in the past that has lifted your spirit, been a Godly influence or was an answer to prayer and you dwell on it. At first, you might even need to sing or hum a Christian song you know or even do it in your mind in a way that flushes the thoughts away. After practicing these things, eventually you will learn to control and do away with inordinate thoughts.

This is the first step in gaining control over living a Godly life daily.

The second step is, how to be obedient?

We have to have a willful attitude toward God.

This involves a willingness to listen to, and stop ungodly behavior, when the spirit tells us. This is a willingness to, not put ourselves intentionally in a situation of temptation. This is one of the hardest steps you will take in your spiritual walk.

Here's why!

We are a feel good society. If it feels good, we want to do it, if it makes us happy, we want to do it, if it gives us an advantage in some way like saving money, or saving time, we want to do it. If it feeds our pride, we want to do it. We will do just about anything that makes our lives easier without listening to our conscious when we are being led by the flesh and convicted in our thoughts.

Because of the above traits, we can very easily get out of living an honest and upright life in our relationship with God. This is what causes separation in our spiritual walk, it grieves the Holy Spirit, and it stifles the answers in our prayer life. God will condemn your thoughts, actions, and take away blessings that could be yours. I could give you a whole laundry list of the things that stifle our spiritual walk and prayer life, but I suggest you read my other writings and you will find them.

The third step is submitting our spirit to the influence of the Holy Spirit.

As we learn how to submit our consciousness and our behavior, our sphere of influence will naturally change. We will learn not to do things that are a temptation, like go somewhere you know that is not a Godly place.

In our social life, we learn not to subject ourselves to ungodly influences and ungodly people. That doesn't mean we will always be able to control it, it just means we will minimalize those experiences.

As we grow from a babe in Christ, we will leave the circle of friends we know that are contrary to our faith, and that cause us to fall back into the worldly life from peer pressure. As we grow more mature, we tend to sacrifice more of our own will for things that are more consistent with the word and will of God.

I must emphasize that in all of this process from start to finish, we HAVE TO be in God's word, reading daily or at least regularly, at night is best if possible before bed , so that we can come into alignment with the word, but also this allows us to see how Jesus dealt with everything that was a part of the earthly ministry He was sent to do.

As we do this we get to know Christ.

We need to develop our Godly armour by using scripture as our tools. As the bible says, put on the whole armour of God.
Ephesians 6:11-18. Then when we are tempted, we have a defense. As we submit ourselves moment by moment, we come to realize that the spirit is able to lead us and you will recognize it after you have had prayers answered and situations that were corrected because of the leading.

Also, as we grow and we understand more meaty sermons, if the preaching is on growth, you will eventually reach points that you look back and say, wow, I remember when God brought me to that point in my life and now I can overcome that because of my daily obedience. We can never do anything of ourselves, it's only God's strength that allows victory in our personal lives.

Step four mimics that of a person who looks like their talking to themselves. Have you ever seen someone walking down the sidewalk or beside the road and their talking out loud and you can hear them ever so faintly? Our first impression is, "is this person nuts or what." Then it dawns on us, or we see the ear piece, that they have a blue-tooth headset and are talking to someone on their mobile phone. This is how we have to be with Jesus Christ.

If your a born again believer, then you have the gift of the Holy Spirit. This means, you have God on the inside of you, so you are never alone, but it means that He is with you all the time. So act like it and start communicating with him.

When I am alone, I sometimes slip and talk to him out loud. I however, always talk to him in my spirit and sometimes under my breath in a non-audible tone. This my friends, is how you practice God consciousness. Don't talk to Him only when you think he's listening in prayer at home on your knees, because He is your invisible, omnipresent friend and boss. So if you develop a habit of communicating with Him as if He's with you in spirit or in body, you will soon find yourself acting in a way that reflects that. this can be defined as, "Do What Jesus Would Do!" So many people ask, "what would Jesus do?" Well, He's in you, act like He's watching everything you do!

Finally and most important, the greatest thing you can do is "think like Jesus would think." Once enough time has passed and you have exercised all of the above things and made them a habit, thinking like Jesus would think will almost start without you realizing it.

Eventually, you will slow down the way you react to most situations, like reacting to comments and actions of other people. Instead there will be an initial thought that is in your head and it is this, "how would Jesus react, what would Jesus do or say and why?" AFter you reach a certain maturity, it will be automatic as if your heart and mind are on God's auto-pilot.

When you reach this stage of maturity, you make less mistakes, you edify the body of Christ more, and the Holy Spirit is able to not only lead you more, but you also recognize much easier, where God has worked, and where He is working in your life.

Once you reach an upper level of maturity, your daily walk in Christ is almost synonymous with your earthly walk. Another-wards, you are so based in the will of God for your life that you do things from an unconscious spiritual position and sometimes you will doubt if you are in the will of God, because you only see conformations every so often proving that it was the spirit that caused you to do something that felt like the flesh.

On the same thought level you will have learned to take more chances because of the faith that you have built upon in your Christian walk. We can not walk by, feelings, sight, logic or common sense, if you don't step out of these on a regular basis, you will not be able to see the hand of God working in your life. The essence of a faith walk is risking it all for Christ, stepping out on faith and not living in a comfort zone.

We cannot live in a comfort zone and ever do God's will or grow in our faith, it just isn't possible!

My hope for you is that you have had a prayer of salvation,
and if you haven't and you want to ask Christ into your heart and life,
then I offer these words for you to repeat,
but only if your heart is sincere,
because God knows it if you're not.

Dear God, I now know I have needed you and have
rejected your calling, so today, right now,
I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and my life,
and forgive me from all past sin and Lord cleanse me
from my unrighteousness. I believe that Jesus was
crucified for my sin, died, and was buried and rose from the
dead according to the scriptures. I want you forever more
to be my guide and I want to follow you as a believer.
I ask for your strength to change my heart and
my earthly ways so that I can become a better
child in your kingdom. Show me how to depend
on you in all things. And show me how to do
your will in my life. I thank you and pray this
prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
