Honesty is the Best Policy

Have you ever heard the saying

honesty is the best policy?

Romans 12:17 KJV says, Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

II Corinthians 8:21 says, Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

If we are going to try to grow spiritually and have an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior then we have to do a spiritual house cleaning.

Here’s a place to start. We need to take a good close and hard look at ourselves, our life style and our thought patterns and see if they live up to a Godly standard.

2 Cor. 4:8-11 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10) Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may always be made manifest in our body. 11) For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

As I said earlier, honesty is the best policy. Start with sincere prayer and work your way out from there. We need to be living a holy life in order to stay in tune with the leading of the Holy Spirit.

If you have an area of your life you are not being honest with yourself about, straighten it out. If you’re making excuses that justify the end results, but it is not a path of honesty, than you need to rectify it.

Many things can dull our senses and keep us from living a Holy and consecrated and connected life with God’s Holy Spirit.

1st Peter 2:13,14 says this, Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the lords sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praise of them that do well.

Let me just name a few.

Pornography which is illicit pictures of anything of a sexual nature

Illegal media we know we are not supposed to have. IE.

Gaming software

DVD movies

VCD Movies

Computer software

Non-legitimate reading materials that we do not own the rights to by purchase

Music CD’s or mp3’s that we have not possessed legitimately

Then there are other things that can hinder our personal growth in unsuspected areas.

It can be an unhealthy lust of any kind, examples are,

Food - This involves overeating, binge eating, eating to divert sinful feelings and loneliness or rejection.

Drinks - Having an unhealthy drinking habit, the bible says to do everything in moderation!

Women - Again lust and inordinate affections, pornography

Men - The same as above.

Tobacco - Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Illegal drugs - This naturally is illegal, against the laws of man and God.

The scripture below covers the Lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.

1st John 2:16,17 says this, For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

We need to clean house as fast as we can, and as thorough as we can, as the spirit leads us, and do it with all sincerity of heart.

Remember as a born again Christian, we have the Holy Spirit living inside us and more often than not, we are grieving the Holy Spirit by our thoughts and actions.

Ephesians 4:29-32 says this, Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Whatever it is that you get convicted about, there is a reason. No matter what the cost, money, reputation, humility, we need to confess it before God, throw it away and start a fresh. I don’t care what the cost is to you.

If you’re doing business with illegal software, you need to pray to God and ask Him to give you the resources to replace that with legitimate software and keep an honest walk before your Lord. If He can’t trust you with the things of this earth, how do you expect Him to trust you with heavenly things?

Jesus himself in Luke 16:10 says this, He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

We are in the end of days and while no one knows the day or the time, you can be sure that you don’t want Jesus coming back and seeing you with a dirty spiritual house!

There’s another important aspect of keeping a clear conscience and also testing God, as He gives us permission to do it in this area! Tithing, we need to remember that God is the one who is giving us life and breath, He has given us the opportunities that we have for gainful employment. We need to be following His oracles and tithing at least 10% of our gross profit. I understand that this is almost impossible for some. This is where faith and wisdom can be used.

If you have never tithed, start small and the most important thing is, to do it with a merry heart and with gladness. God honors those attitudes. It is better for us to give first to our church, and then if so led, to other causes. God will start to show you his blessings in this, I can promise you that!

Honest Japanese Return $78 Million in Cash Found in Earthquake Rubble

By Karen Datko on Fri, Aug 19, 2011 6:01 PM

Thousands of wallets containing the equivalent of $48 million in cash have been found amid debris since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan -- and turned in to authorities. More than 5,700 safes containing another $30 million washed ashore and were taken by rescue workers and regular folks to police, according to news reports.

We have to wonder: Would this have happened in the United States?

"The National Police Agency says nearly all the valuables found in the three hardest hit prefectures have been returned to their owners," ABC News reported from Japan. Often, finding the owners was very difficult because they had been forced to relocate.

Readers were duly impressed. "Gerrylea" commented at ABC News:

Another reason to admire the Japanese ... unlike our wonderful US citizens who looted and vandalized their cities after our 'natural' disasters (such as Katrina). The Japanese have shown the world what true honor and civility are all about.

"Mrluckyman" commented on The Huffington Post, "In the USA the money would mysteriously vanish."

People are supposed to make a good-faith effort to return lost money to its rightful owner. Local laws vary, but you may be required to give the money to police or publicize the find. Of course, if no one else knows, your conscience will be the ultimate guide.

Don't we all love reading about people who do the honest thing, like New York City cab driver Mohammad Asadujjaman, who returned a purse containing $21,000 to an Italian tourist who'd left it in his cab, and New Jersey cabbie Mohammed Khalil, who found a $4 million Stradivarius that a famous violinist had forgotten and reunited it with its grateful owner.

There's also the story of Ashley Donaldson, 15, who found $2,000 in an envelope on the ground in Dallas and turned it in at a nearby bank. The city planned to keep the money after it went unclaimed, citing a new city policy, but later went by Texas law, which required giving Ashley the money if no one responded to public notice of the find and proved ownership, WFAA-TV reported.

At the time, Ashley lived in a one-bedroom apartment with her parents and four siblings. The money surely helped.

Still, the report from Japan made a deep impression on readers. "Can we all say we'd do the same?" HuffPost user Mary Karius asked.

"Kgr656" responded, "We could, but unfortunately, most would be lying."

The video about this whole story is downloadable at the bottom of this page!

My hope for you is that you have had a prayer of salvation,
and if you haven't and you want to ask Christ into your heart and life,
then I offer these words for you to repeat,
but only if your heart is sincere,
because God knows it if you're not.

Dear God, I now know I have needed you and have
rejected your calling, so today, right now,
I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and my life,
and forgive me from all past sin and Lord cleanse me
from my unrighteousness. I believe that Jesus was
crucified for my sin, died, and was buried and rose from
the dead according to the scriptures. I want you forever more
to be my guide and I want to follow you as a believer.
I ask for your strength to change my heart and
my earthly ways so that I can become a better
child in your kingdom. Show me how to depend
on you in all things. And show me how to do
your will in my life. I thank you and pray this
prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
