Husbands and Wives and Marriage.

Husband and Wives and Marriage
This was a blog I had posted some time ago on my Myspace blog and so I am transferring it and many others here to this website also. If you have a Myspace profile, you may read my blogs there at

I. Husbands, love your wives even as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it; Eph. 5:25

Think about what Christ did for the church in giving himself for it. He died for it, that's what he did! We as husbands have to put to death certain parts of our ego, machismo, and mentality for our wives, and children's sake.

II. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Eph. 5:26 & 27

How do we do that? By knowing the word good enough to be able out of love, to edify our wives to move them, if needed, to a higher level of faith. Not a higher level of fear, we have not yet grasp how sensitive a woman is or can be.

I repeat myself, can we do this by creating fear in our wives?

Is it done by intimidation, or manipulation? Absolutely not!

Christ didn't control the church, he let it have liberty to grow out of admonition, but most of all he did it by example.

Christ is in you as you are in Christ and the Father in Him, and all you have to do is pray for wisdom and he freely giveth it to those who ask.

1 Corinthians 2:9 - 14 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words in which mans wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

We have the full assurance of wisdom in Christ as Paul talked about in Colossians 2:2,3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Who else do you think gave us that same advice in the Old Testament?

Solomon, and how many wives did he have?

I would go out on a limb here to say that if post doctorates were in vogue back then, he would have had one called a 'Doctorate in the Philosophy in Behavioral Science of the female brain.'

Solomon was smart enough to put a female gender tag on this for us, listen to what he had to say!

Proverbs 4:5-9 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7 Wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Now, I know Solomon was a wise man, because he couldn't have written these words in any better of a context!

To pick up in my essay on 1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

This can be interpreted in many ways, but mainly if we don't honour our wives and give them their due benevolence as it says in 1 Cor. 7:3 Let the husband render unto his wife due benevolence:... Back to Ephesians 5:33 says Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself...

Picking up again on Ephesians 5:28,29 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the Church.

Now do we have a complete picture here of were we start and were we end? I think so, for it is written down for us just like an instruction manual.

In Conclusion:

We have to practice and do these things that we have been taught. We have no excuse when we don't. We need to get down on our knees right now before God and ask for forgiveness and then go to our wives and on our knees ask her for her forgiveness.

It is our duty, and should be our pleasure, to hold our wives in high esteem. For their job is not easy and their burden is not light if their not keeping in step with a life of faith. It is our responsibility to show them love, and honour their sensitivity.

God didn't make them to be mothers and nurturers for nothing, as he didn't make us men to sit on the couch and not work with our hands to support and raise our children.

While in the admonition of the Word, we also have to practice edification and be encouragers in Christ Jesus.

My hope for you is that you have had a prayer of salvation,
and if you haven't and you want to ask Christ into your heart and life,
then I offer these words for you to repeat,
but only if your heart is sincere,
because God knows it if you're not.

Dear God, I now know I have needed you and have
rejected your calling, so today, right now,
I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and my life,
and forgive me from all past sin and Lord cleanse me
from my unrighteousness. I believe that Jesus was
crucified for my sin, died, and was buried and rose from the
dead according to the scriptures. I want you forever more
to be my guide and I want to follow you as a believer.
I ask for your strength to change my heart and
my earthly ways so that I can become a better
child in your kingdom. Show me how to depend
on you in all things. And show me how to do
your will in my life. I thank you and pray this
prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
