Seek Ye First

As all of our time is used up each day, and weeks and months continue to go by, I ask you, who and what are you living for?

All of our lives are spiritual journeys. You may not realize this, but you're either being guided by man's spirit, or your being guided by God's Spirit. It's your spirit guide that leads the flesh!

All of us need to start each day seeking the truth in spirit!

Matthew 6:24 says, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon."

Believe it or not, this is a profound statement! What is mammon?  Mammon in the biblical sense means, material wealth, or greed, most often personified as a deity. It means the same in the regular dictionary. So while most of us don't operate on that thought plain as we carry out our daily duties in life, we do often desire to make more money for different reasons.

Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

So as long as we are seeking to serve god for the benefit of his kingdom, we will prevail and in the process get those things we need to provide for our daily substance. Now, one of the points I want to make is how do we seek?

If you look in the Word of God, we can find out how to seek.

Starting in the old testament in 1st Chronicles 16:11 It says, "Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually". vs.12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth."

Psalms 105:4 says,"Seek the Lord and his strength: seek his face evermore. vs. 5 Remember his marvelous works he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth."

In Zephaniah 2:3 it says, "Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger."

In Jeremiah 29:13 it says, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when when ye shall search for me with all of your heart."

So we have to seek God with all of our heart!

Once we have found him, what should we do? Let's see what it say in His word for us to do!

We have to ask HIM!

John 16:23,24 it says, "And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you. Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. vs.24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full."

Matthew 7:7-11 says, "Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8) For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9) Or what man is there of you, whom if his son asks bread, will he give him a stone? 10) Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" This is all repeated in Luke 11:9-13.

There are several other verses that say to ask, but the one I want to end with is this, James 4:1-4 and it says, "From whence come wars and fighting among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God."

In a broad sense, the original definition of mammon, mentioned material things, but it also includes worldly things, status, position and pride. So out of a meek heart in humbleness we need to seek the Lord and his will for our lives. How can we do this if we don't have wisdom? Well, the Lord says to also seek wisdom.

Have you heard of Solomon? There's a book in the Old Testament with his name on it. The Book of Solomon. In 1st Kings 4:29-32 it says, "And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore. 30) And Salomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31) For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezahite, and Herman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. 32) And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five."

You think he just laid around waiting for God to give him all that wisdom?

Let's see what the wisest man of those times had to say in his Proverbs. Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3) To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4) To give subtility to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels......7) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Proverbs 24:3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: ...5) A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

There are many verses he gave us, but in Proverbs 2:1-11 it says this, "My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2) So that thou incline thy ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3) Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest thy voice for understanding; 4) If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5) Then shall thou understand the fear of the lord, and find the knowledge of God. 6) For the lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth comest knowledge and understanding. 7) He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8) He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 9) Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. 10) When wisdom entereth thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11) Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:"

To sum up this subject on seeking and finding, this can be a minute to minute task for some, in the beginning. It should be a daily goal for all of God's saints. But you can be assured of this, Jesus told us who would give us this wisdom and knowledge and he is a part of the trinity of the God Head.

In John 14 Philip ask Jesus to show him/us the Father and here's what Jesus had to say to him; 9) Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me. Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then. Shew us the Father? 10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11) Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. 12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14) If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. 15) If ye love me keep my commandments. 16) And I will pray the Father and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17) Even the spirit of truth which the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him not, but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

John 14:25-27 These things have I spoken to you being yet present with you. 26) But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

So we don't have to learn from the world of worldly things, because if we're a born again believer, we have the guarantee that we will be taught by the Holy Spirit.
